This superb LP from MPS Records · BASF (DC 22 888-6, German pressing, red label, stereo) features legendary cellist Ludwig Hoelscher in supremely eloquent accounts of Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major Op. 101 and Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in B Major, both recorded at the MPS-Studio, Villingen, on 27-30 January 1976 with veteran conductor Paul Angerer and the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester on brilliant form.
Incidentally, the striking cover photo of Hoelscher and Angerer was taken by German Hasenfrantz. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Dieter Schorr, printed in German, English, and French.
This album was produced by Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer and engineered by Hanna Dieter.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of, the barest shelfwear perhaps – in fact, the album appears almost as new. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. There are no spindle trails or other marks and the disc plays without defect of any kind – a fine collector's copy.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
