Hometown Fielding is Mark Sadgrove, a sound artist who recorded under the name MHFS for Campbell Kneale's (Birchville Cat Motel) Celebrate Psi Phenomenon imprint, Scarcelight Recordings, Black Petal and Sadgrove's own A Binary Datum imprint.Sadgrove is also a member of Plain along with Tim Coster (field recording artists), Richard Francis (Eso Steel, With Throats As Fine As Needles, Birchville Cat Motel's Campbell Kneale's one time collaborator in Small Blue Torch), Rosy Parlane (Thela and Parmentier), sound artist Clinton Watkins and Paul Winstanley (Audible 3)
As with all CMR releases in this series (releases from The Dead C's Bruce Russell, Tim Coster, Sci-Hi, Sam Hamilton, Pumice and Eye), this one is beautifully packaged in a deep blue card stock with a brown imprinted inner sleeve.
From Simulations: Hometown Feilding is the artist name from Mark Sadgrove, a New Zealander living in Tokyo. We all know about the whole kiwi noise scene but while most of it is rock orientated, New Zealand has some of the greatest musicians working with computers such as Rosy Parlane, Dion Workman, Richard Francis and Sandgrove. Mark is the probably the only programmer of all of them. Simulations is a playful collection of pieces with a warm and natural feeling to it. The more you listen to Simulations, the more you can relate to the New Zealand aesthetic but in a different and very personal way. What at the beginning seems to sound like an early electronic version of African music then leads to a second half that, under a kind of dirt behind the digital sounds, demonstrates an exquisite sense of time, pace and development. thebigcity says of Mark Sadgrove's MHFS:
MHFS is Mark Sadgrove, an Auckland-based physicist currently working on a doctorate in experimental quantum dynamics. in his spare time he makes sound with open source software tools. ‘Ti Point Wharf’ is in keeping with his previous “location themed” recordings, “a Nelson city hymnal” on ABD, and “West Auckland Driving Songs” on Celebrate Psi Phenomenon - Sourcelight.

Infinitesimal is the electronic feedback/computer improvisation project of Mark Sadgrove (MHFS, Hometown Fielding, Plains) and Paul Winstanley (Sci Hi, Audible 3, Dial, Plains) who first rocked the reactivated Auckland scene during the Alt.music festival in 2004, their first gig. Sadgrove uses linux-based c-sound software triggering self-scripted algorithms while Winstanley sculpts digital feedback and noise from an effects processor, EQ and mixer. Subscribers to the adage of ‘machine knows best’, Infinitesimal veers towards microprocessor directed soundscapes of turbulent quality.
