One of the rarest blackploitation soundtracks -- and some great lost work by Weldon Irvine! The album's sort of a collective project that features some of RCA's biggest soul acts of the early 70s -- including Friends Of Distinction, Zulema, and Weldon Irvine -- and the whole affair was arranged and produced by Carl Maults-by, a lesser-known arranger from the early 70s, but one who had a wonderful talent for coming up with backings that were baroque and funky at the same time. As is typical with this sort of soundtrack, some of the best work is on the instrumental tracks -- and these include the funky "Titles & Openings" and "Salt Chase", which have funky trumpet solos by Blood Hollins and clavinet by Weldon Irvine. The vocal numbers are great, too -- especially "Nowhere", which has this amazing hook at the beginning, with Fender Rhodes by Nat Adderley Jr, and vocals by the Friends Of Distinction and Tender Loving Care. Other titles include "Honey Baby Theme", "Just Can't Say Goodbye", and "Baalbeck". Totally rare -- and one that won't be likely to be reissued!
