Harmonica well to the fore, with strumming acoustic guitar leading the melody, former Honeybus man Colin Hare's own 'Underground Girl' is a bucolic, gentle, atmospheric, lyrically evocative, ultimately unrequited love song from 1971 on the very collectable Penny Farthing label (PEN 750). And this is a sought-after, vg+ promo copy, stamped with the date of release,January 22, 1971. I reviewed it positively, but it failed to impress too many chart fans and it disappeared to be stored in my collection. Heard today from the distance of almost fifty years it takes on a slightly melancholy air of yearning. The vg B side, another Colin song, is 'Fighting For Peace', despite its anti-war sentiment, is a more jaunty, up-beat offering, making a terrific complementary contrast to the vg+ A side, while echoing the harmonica sound. It comes in its original vg+ orange Penny Farthing sleeve.
