Description

Original Capitol rainbow-ring ST-2010, with Big Daddy Ed Roth, Mr. Gasser, The Weirdos; vinyl VG+", jacket/covers with some spine-wear, some title-spine splits. Personnel: Steve Douglas (saxophone); Hal Blaine (drums); Gary Usher (background vocals). Unknown Contributor Roles: Jerry Cole; Leon Russell; Ray Pohlman. Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was a custom car enthusiast who parlayed his obsession into a thriving early-1960s model car, t-shirt, and decal business. Roth's cartoons, featuring crazed humanoid rodents and manic motorcycle riders, were adopted by hot rod enthusiasts and surfers alike. Mr. Gasser & the Weirdos was the enterprising Roth's musical incarnation, overseen by Beach Boys' associate Gary Usher and aided by the cream of Los Angeles session men, including the drummer Hal Blaine and the guitarist Glen Campbell. This album, first released in 1963, is a wacky, surf-music sounding collection of spoof auto-related material, including the title track, "You Ain't Nothing But a Honda," and "Termites in My Woody."
