About This Album:

This historic 2-LP custom pressing documents the prestigious July 1967 Mexican Tour undertaken by the Houston All-City Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Harry Lantz. Comprising over 100 select student musicians from high schools across Houston, Texas, the ensemble served as cultural ambassadors performing at landmark venues including Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, and UNAM.

A major highlight of this set is the live world premiere of Czech-American composer Václav Nelhybel's Concerto Houston para orquesta, commissioned specifically for this tour and conducted here by Nelhybel himself. The program also features Dmitri Shostakovich's Festive Overture, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Capricho español, a traditional Mexican Folk Medley, and Antonín Dvořák's complete Symphony No. 4 in G Major, Op. 88 (New No. 8) across Disc 2.

Notable Ephemera & Included Inserts:

• Commemorative Tour Booklet: Features the original goldenrod paper booklet with a decorative scalloped lace border titled "Houston All-City Symphony Orchestra 1967 Mexican Tour". The booklet includes English translations of Mexican reviews (*Excélsior*, *El Heraldo*) compared against reviews from their 1965 German tour, complete orchestra rosters, and a distinctive credit noting it was physically "Printed by the San Jacinto High School Print Shop".
• Color-Blocked Program Insert: Complete insert sheet detailing the orchestra's three distinct touring concert programs across 13 Mexican cities and venues.
• Scrapbook Gatefold: Gatefold interior features candid tour photography of student musicians at the Pyramids of Teotihuacán, Mexican markets, meeting U.S. Ambassador Fulton Freeman, and rehearsals with Nelhybel.
