We’re having a bit of a clearout of stuff at home so I’ve put my usual eBay sales of art and ephemera mostly to one side for a few weeks. I’ve got a large personal collection of vinyl, lots of which I don’t play any more, so one of the things I will be selling is records. New Orleans piano player, Huey Smith played on numerous rock’n’roll and R&B classic tracks cut in his home city in the 1950s and 1960s. He also had two major US national hits in the later of his own with Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu (pts 1 and 2) and Don't You Just Know It b/w High Blood Pressure. Both these tracks have stood the test of time and remain R&B classics. Huey Smith also had lots of regional hits and a number of smaller successes at in the national charts. Very few of his records were released in the UK and none was a success.
Tu-ber-cu-lucas And The Sinus Blues – a fairly obvious attempt to re-visit Rockin' Pneumonia” was recorded for Ace Records in the USA. It was released in the UK in 1965 on the Sue label. Sue was a short-lived subsidiary of Island Records, which at the time specialised in licensing blue beat and ska tracks from Jamaica. It was an adventurous label which put out a large number of soul, blues and R&B tracks that would never in a million years have seen the light of day in the UK otherwise. Most Sue releases failed to sell in any quantity and many are now highly collectable.
I bought this copy of Tu-ber-cu-lucas And The Sinus Blues second hand in the early 1970s. Its a good example of what is a very rare single. The playing surface is in extremely good condition with just a very few minor surface marks but very. It plays very well. The labels are also bright and clean as you can see. I will supply the record in a brand new white sleeve.
