LLOYD K. HILLMAN'S 1640 BOYS doing "I GOTTA MISERY" and "NEVER AGAIN."
Rare Columbia regional release autographed in 1929, in white ink, by the two vocalists: "Sincerely yours, Tommy Monroe" and "Bob Allen"
In the late '20s, Lloyd K. Hillman was a used-car dealer, whose lot was located in bustling downtown San Francisco (1640 Van Ness Avenue). Besides dealing Model A's and Pierce-Arrows, he was a litigious go-getter, with several court cases to his credit. Also, like a lot of other used car dealers, he had a flair for publicity and ballyhoo - one example of which is this record. Maybe Tommy Monroe and Bob Allen were two of his salesmen!
This original 1929 Columbia 40000-D (yes, the first one in the series!) is in nominal V++ condition. Normally, I carefully clean each record before taking its picture, but in this case, I didn't want to risk damaging the delicate, water-soluble autographs.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
