The late-Ian Carr was one of the great unsung hereos of British jazz. A superb trumpeter, admired and respected by both Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, Carr's recorded works were often brilliant and always interesting, from his 1960s Don Rendell years through to his electric fusion work with Nucleus, he was always a stimulating, imaginative composer and performer. In his later years he became a erudite writer and broadcaster. An intelligent, thoughtful man with many gifts - he is sadly missed by jazz fans and those who knew him personally.
