"BELLADONNA" - IAN CARR SEPTET - Vertigo 6360 076 - A SUPERLATIVE COPY OF THIS MEGA RARE UK ORIGINAL LP!! - - The superb gatefold sleeve with it's great artwork by Denise Valentine, is in BEAUTIFUL shape, whilst the spiral label Vertigo disc appears to have virutally very little play, it is GLEAMING!!! - -This is not only an incredibly rare item, but it is a programme par excellence by some of the finest of the Britjazz young lions! - -Ian Carr on trumpet is magnificent, accompanied by such luminaries as, Gordon Beck or Dave McCrae on piano, the articulate and beautifully inventive Brian Smith on reeds and flute, Alan Holdsworth's guitar, Roy Babbington on bass and the awesome drumming of Clive Thacker. Trevor Tomkins appears on three trax as percussionist. - - Needless to say, under the direction of their brilliant leader, all members acquit themselves superbly.!! - - All the trax are written by either Carr himself, showcasing the amazing talent of his penmanship, with the remaining 2 numbers, by Brian Smith, a brilliant composer in his own right. As you would expect from Carr and his feeling thruout this period, this is a programme of exquisitely descriptive jazz, often with very modal overtones, in fact this could probably be called a jazz tone poem. - - Trax are: firstly from Carr; "Belladonna", "Summer rain", Mayday" and "Suspension", from Smith; "Remadione" and "Hector's house". - A true joy in jazz listing, emotional, beautiful and exciting all at once------ SO SO HARD TO FIND, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION - - GRAB THIS ONE WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!
