IKE TURNER’s KINGS OF RHYTHM
1959 blues shouter
Ike Turner sure did have a long and varied career in music. He’s been a pioneer in nearly every one of his phases and this one finds him in his St. Louis days (1956-’59) when he was working with his band the Kings of Rhythm playing all over the place and was looking for that next big sound.
Of course, the next big thing would be teaming up with Tina but that’s still months away when this single was issued. Tommy Hodge is the singer on both sides of this platter. The topside here is a real pounder called “(I Know) You Don’t Love Me” paired with the smokey blues “Down And Out.”
