IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO 'Sirio 2222' LP (US, Lion Productions, Catalogue #LP-135) Brand new/unplayed copy of limited year 2014 Lion Productions vinyl edition of MEGA-RARE 1970 heavy progressive hard rock album by Italian band Il Balletto Di Bronzo (originally released 1n 1970 on the RCA label in Italy.)

Raw-edged heavy rock, fronted by Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars, channeling the dark, jagged energy of Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz, and Jeff Beck. Il Balletto di Bronzo absorbed their influences (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds), but moved from there into an inspired, hard-edged musical space; the band's overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. ‘Un posto’ and ‘Neve Calda’ are centered around simple but effective guitar riffs. ‘Eh eh ah ah’ starts like a nice mellow ballad, but gets into a hard blues rock groove. On side two, there's the seven-minute mammoth heavy grind of ‘Incantesimo’ and the colossal ‘Missione Sirio 2222,’ almost ten minutes of droning acid rock with whirling guitars and heavy pounding drums, sandwiched between an acoustic intro and outro. No surprise then that Nurse With Wound cited Il Balletto di Bronzo as an influence.
"This was one of the most talented Italian groups. Formed in Naples in the sixties, their first single "Neve Calda" being released in 1969. The exact line-up behind Il Balletto Di Bronzo's first album is not known (as it wasn't mentioned on the record sleeve.) Anyway, Sirio 2222 was one of the best albums released in Italy before 1971. This is raw-edged, intelligent heavy progressive rock at its very best - fronted b Lino Ajello's powerful electric guitars (comparable to Jimmy Page, Adrian Gurvitz and Jeff Beck) and an enthusiastic vocalist (comparable to Steve Winwood.) The slight blues influence wasn't common for Italian bands at the time. Only a couple of the nine tracks are longer than 4 minutes, but their overwhelming power and great melodies make them irresistible. Il Balletto di Bronzo (The Ballet Of Bronze) started as the Naples beat group Battitori Selvaggi (Savage Batters), becoming Il Balletto di Bronzo in 1969. Their debut LP Sirio 2222 is acclaimed as the first Italian prog album, although it was clearly a product of the 1960's, ranging flower-power pop through to experimental freak-out. Although no musician credits are given it is known that keyboard wizard Gianni Leone (ex-Volti Di Pietra and the pre-Osanna Città Frontale) joined during the sessions and features on about half the album. Some themes from the LP and the song "Ti Risveglierai Con Me" were made in collaboration with well-known musical maverick Piero Umiliani, and feature in the soundtrack to Mario Bava's psychedelic Giallo film "Five Dolls For An August Moon".
