IMPALA SYNDROME – Impala Syndrome. Wah Wah LPS 003. Spanish release. NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. This item does not come factory sealed. Originally issued in 1969 on the Parallax label. This edition issued in 2000. MEMBERS: Rudy Márquez, Edgar Quintero, Nerio Quintero, Bernardo Ball, and Francisco Belisario.

DESCRIPTION: Some years back, when I first stocked this reissue edition on Spain’s Wah Wah label, finding information on this band was, to say the least, a bit patchy. Thankfully, more details have surfaced on the history of their. Originally from Venezuela, where they were known as Los Impala, this group relocated to Madrid, Spain in 1965. After a few months, their singer Henry Stephens left to pursue a solo career, recording an EP as Lord Henry Con Los Impala. After a few years the band moved to Chicago, releasing this self-titled album in 1969, which is well worth checking out. An effective blend of melodic, laid back songs (Love Grows A Flower, Land Of No Time, and the superb Eastern-influenced finale, Run [Don't Look Behind]) combined with fuzz guitar numbers like Too Much Time and Let Them Try. New Love Time is also rather catchy but Leave, Eve sounds unashamedly like The Rascals' Its Wonderful, which is not a bad thing just a bit derivitive. Their sound is often very similar to Cream, vocally and instrumentally, with some occasional muscular guitar/bass guitar/drumkit playing and some excellent riffs. In fact, For A Small Fee sounds like a Cream cover. In general, it's ordinary hippy jam rock without much jamming. The songs are all compact and commercially oriented, not much in the way of an acid rock edge and definitely more lightweight flower power sounding than Cream. Male vocals in English, excellent quality. There's only a faint trace of a Latin influence; it's pretty much straight US/UK-derived rock with elements of R&B, soul, funk, and blues, just like Cream. SIDE BAR: This band has been linked to the band Brew that issued the album A Very Strange Brew on ABC Records in 1969. However, with the history I have since uncovered on this band it is unlikely there is any connection, unless it occurred after the time-span of this band. The Parallax label, the underground subsidiary of Audio Fidelity Records that also issued The Sacred Mushroom album (P-4001), from Cincinnatti, worthy of your further investigation. The Impala Syndrome was issued as P-4002. Pharallax issued one more album in 1970 jumping on the astrological concept band-wagon and then went dormant.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.

MIX: This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.
