TITLE: Bongo Rock
ARTIST: Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band
LABEL / YEAR: PRIDE (PRD 0028) / 1973
REMARKS: I’m selling off my soundtracks and other good vinyl over the next several months. I don’t have room for records anymore. I hope these go to a good home.
This is the original issue from 1973 in fine condition. This one has the shiny "foil" cover.
From Dusty Groove: A landmark album that is perhaps the single most influential beat source in hip hop! The record was the brainchild of bongo player Michael Viner -- who also happened to be running the Pride subsidiary of MGM at the time. Viner's got a meeeeeean touch on the bongo, hitting it hard and funky like the best 70s conga players -- and his approach to the instrument is kind of like a funky update of popular instrumental styles laid down on guitar by The Ventures or on moog by Hot Butter. This album features the classics "Apache" and "Bongo Rock" -- both with monster funky breakdowns that showed up on a heck of a lot of hip hop records over the years -- plus loads of other goodies like "Last Bongo In Belgium" and "Bongolia". Excellent stuff -- and darn hard to find!
CONDITION:
VINYL = VG++/NM, plays excellently. .
COVER = 7.5/10: minor wear, three-inch seam split.
GRADING: Records and covers are graded to Goldmine Standards to the best of my ability (covers are graded on a scale of one to ten: ten = perfect, one = most hideous piece of junk you could imagine). I do a very quick play grade for each record but do not listen to the item straight through. I simply try to listen for noise in the quiet spots and where flaws appear visible. I check for any warps that affect play. They will be mentioned if they do affect play. Very small ones that do not affect play will not be mentioned.
