Description
You are bidding on an authentic and very rare copy of Vee-Jay’s LP "Introducing ...the Beatles" in true stereo (SR 1062). This LP is version 2 which was released between Feb. 10 and mid-June 1964 with the songs "Ask Me Why" and "Please Please Me" listed on the back cover in columns. This is an original LP and was purchased from Rockaway Records in early 1995 (their original description note will be included). This record is listed and pictured as VJ 1062(2).SC1/SR2C on pages 137/144 of Bruce Spizer’s book ("Beatles Records on Vee-Jay") and it has all of the necessary features that make it an original:
- it plays in true stereo (no pirated/counterfeit copy does this)
- the labels are clearly marked "Stereo" (two times each side)
- the width of the trail-off area is correct and the "dead wax" has all of the correct markings
- inside of the jacket there are 1/4" flaps at the top and bottom
- there is no missing ink at the tops of the letters "H" and "E" in the word "HONEY" on the back cover
- you can see George’s shadow on the cover - colors are true and not washed-out
The LP comes with the original inner sleeve which is the rarer December 1963 "Ad Back" version (see page 194 of Spizer). The LP was manufactured by Allentown Record Co., Inc. (ARC) and "ARC" is printed in the "dead wax" along with "URJ", "S 63-3402/3", the "Audio Matrix" logo, and the date "2-6-64" which is the date the master was made (i.e., February 6/64). For every 33 mono copies of this album, only 1 stereo copy was pressed which gives you an idea of its relative scarcity.
Book value is $700.00 (Goldmine/Neely) to $950.00 (Cox) USA funds in this condition:
Condition:
COVER: VG+ (Name is stamped in blue on the back [see photo]; top left seam has minor wear but rest of seams are very good shape; and minor rub mark on front left of cover. Beautiful cover that looks brand new at first glance).
RECORD: VG (Plays VG+ - have seen many dealers grade this type of LP VG+ since it plays VG+ but Rockaway’s original grade of VG is more accurate).
VJ SLEEVE: VG+ (½" piece torn at top center which has been neatly repaired with tape).
This is a rare opportunity to own an authentic stereo copy of this desirable piece of Beatle history. The stereophonic sound and dynamic punch of this album are amazing which is typical of the deep groove pressings of VJ records from this time period.
