Iron Maiden : Iron Maiden A1 / B1 1st Press 1980

This classic debut plays to a very high standard with only minimal interference i.e. very very minimal!  There is just one light click on S1 and another dull sounding one on S2.  Aside from that it plays with stunning clarity, depth and power and there is no background static getting in the way.  A superb version.

The cover is very clean with only a little wear on the edges as described below and the inner sleeve remains in great condition.

This pressing has the complete 7.20 version of 'Phantom Of The Opera' with the brief reprise at the end.  The credits on the labels are on two lines and no credits on two lines and no ℗ symbol is present.

Visual description

This vinyl is in excellent condition overall and S1 has just one small faint scuff area and some light hairlines none of which have any affect on the audio.  There is also one tiny white 'speck' causing one light click.  S2 does have three short hairlines that are a little more obvious but again they have no impact on the audio.  The run out grooves are very clean and the labels have barely any spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Prowler' plays with stunning precision and Di'Anno's opening vocal section is equally as strong.  It continues to play with outstanding power and depth and nowhere is that more obvious than during the mid instrumental although there is just one light click at the end caused by that tiny speck.  The remainder plays with great quality with just one minor static near the end.  From start to finish there is no 'muddiness' to the sound and whilst the band were not too impressed with the production values on the album the sonic quality is still so impressive.  Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.

The quiet intro on 'Remember Tomorrow' plays so clearly with only a handful of non-intrusive statics at the beginning, you hardly notice them, and the first vocal is perfect.  As the volume increases the playback is so strong and powerful and the next vocal passage has no intrusion either.  The following instrumental is phenomenal - furious and fast it is 'as new' with zero background.  The repeated first verse is flawless and the high octane final section is on the same level.  This classic 'progressive' track easily deserves to be graded as Mint- it is a stunning version.

'Running Free' plays with incredible power and definition from the get go.  The percussive / bass intro is faultless and then every vocal and instrumental section play with sublime clarity and depth.  Mint from start to finish.

The intro on the classic 'Phantom Of The Opera' could not play any better and the opening two verses are just as strong and clear.  From then on you cannot help but be impressed by the sonic quality on offer here.  The long instrumental is just STUNNING, every note so sharp and precise, great separation.  I cannot overstate just how superb the sound is!  With numerous time changes the playback is phenomenal and the end vocal has only the bare minimum of inner groove distortion, hardly worth a mention really I am being too critical!  The few seconds of silence has only a couple of light dull ticks and the brief 'reprise' has no intrusion.  Overall Mint- is deserved.

The instrumental 'Transylvania' plays with exceptional audio throughout with no interference.  A couple of barely audible dust ticks that is all, the power and depth of sound is again so impressive.  Mint

The segue into 'Strange World' is faultless and then the intro has no intrusion either.  Di'Anno's first vocal is close to that with just one dull sounding click but otherwise plays perfectly with no background static.  From then on it plays with imperious quality and again there is no background to be heard.  The mid solo is superb and the final vocal again plays with impeccable clarity.  Not bad for a quiet number!  Near Mint-

'Charlotte The Harlot' plays with genuine power throughout with no interference.  I might have heard just a hint of non-intrusive distortion but again so so minor.  Mint-

The intro on 'Iron Maiden' is perfect and the opening vocal is just as strong.  It continues in the same way with a real dynamic quality and there are no ticks, clicks or pops.  There is perhaps a little vocal distortion here and there but no more than you would expect and it still plays with great quality from start to finish.  A powerhouse finale and Near Mint is deserved.  A stunning album overall with hardly any intrusion.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition overall and still holds its original shape and structure perfectly.   The only 'real' wear is some rubbing on the edges, spine and corners but it certainly isn't excessive.  The opening edge is very clean and the front cover and back are very impressive with only some of the usual faint creases around the edges.

The plain white poly-lined inner is in excellent shape with only some light creasing.  It has three Patent Nos, 282 and Made In Great Britain printed on one side.

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
