The Number of the Beast is the third studio album by the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released on March 22, 1982. This work represents the first with vocalist Bruce Dickinson and the last with percussionist Clive Burr. It is considered one of the best metal albums of all time. The Number of the Beast was a huge success with critics and audiences, reaching number one spot in the UK for the band and being certified platinum in the United States. Two singles were taken from the album: "The Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills"; the latter was the band's first single to reach the top 10 in the UK. The album was also controversial due to the profane nature of the lyrics and its cover.
