IRON MAIDEN "The Trooper" RARE Shaped Picture Disc from 1983 COOL Collectible

A little over FORTY years ago, in 1983, British rockers Iron Maiden released their fourth studio album, and called it 'Piece of Mind'. Maiden frequently wrote from a historical perspective, and the two singles released from 'Piece of Mind' did exactly that. The first single, "Flight of Icarus", was based on the Greek mythological character who flew too close to the sun. And the second (and only other) single from that metal masterpiece is a song called "The Trooper". The song is based on a battle from the Crimean War of 1854. The band released it with a Jethro Tull remake on the B side ("Cross Eyed Mary", from the Tull album 'Aqualung', originally released in 1971).

Maiden released "The Trooper" as a special, limited edition, shaped picture disc in '83. That vinyl pic disc features Eddie, in a red coat, on the battlefield, on the A side, with song titles and credits on the B side. This comes in a clear generic PVC jacket. The vinyl itself has some light marks on it, but nothing too bad. I cannot vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such pic discs or colored records. And it's a bit primitive, as shaped pic discs became much more common a little later on. There's some "tea staining" starting to happen on the clear rim of this, but nothing too bad. Some copies are really bad, and some have no oxidation at all. This one almost looks like it's supposed to be there. Almost sepia, and it fits right in! (See pics for close ups.)

Amazingly enough, Iron Maiden is still around, still releasing new music, still touring, and still relevant! One of the premier bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement in the 80s, they've outlasted most of their peers, and rocked the world since the debut album was released in 1980! Grab this "Trooper" collectible, released to promote the 'Piece of Mind' album in '83, while you still can. This one can go for a nice chuck of change, so at this price, it's probably not going to be around long...
