July 4th 1985 Please Read Prior To Bidding - TELL EBAY TO STOP THE UNFAIR FEE PRACTICES
I recently discovered upon review of EBAY's fee assessment, that they've decided to include postage costs in the final fee valuation calculation.
This practice is unfair, unwarranted and one of the most bone-headed decisions I've seen in my 9 years on EBAY.
Based upon this , I am forced to pass this onto the buyer as a 9 % addition to the postage listed.
Unlike some sellers, I refuse to charge more postage than necessary, however the additional fees Im paying are getting rather hefty.
THEORETICAL EXAMPLE
Assume I have an LP listed for $4.00 with a domestic media postage rate of $4.00 and and international postage rate of $12.50.
On an $4.00 sale, ebay should only charge me the listing fee of .40 cents and a final value of 9 % or .36 cents or a total charge of .76 cents If this item now sells domestically for $4.00 and I charge $4.00 for media mail, my final charge is now .40 cents + final value fee of .72 cents or $1.12 total.
This means EBAY makes an additional 60 % or more in fees based upon postage costs !!! WHAT ? If this item now sells internationally for $4.00 and I charge $12.50 for first class mail, my final charge is .40 cents + 1.50 or $1.90 total. Take into consideration the 3% paypal takes and Im now getting only $2.00 of the $4.00 made off the record. A 50 % take for EBAY
REAL LIFE EXAMPLE
Consider a recent boxset transaction I had with a $25 dollar boxset which cost $33 to send to CANADA.
Instead of a $2.25 final value fee (9% of the selling price) , I'm forced to pay 9% on $58.00 dollars or %5.22 ,
an effective doubling of my paypal final fee BEFORE any paypal fees (which includes fees on postage again).
More than double the final fee just for selling internationally !! Really !?!
If this seems as ridiculous to You as it does to Me, PLEASE contact EBAY via SUGGESTION BOX and voice your discontent.
