This auction is for a copy of one of the rarest US private pressings: ISABEL BAKER "I like God's Style" on Romco records 1965.

Isabel Baker, 16 years of age at the time, made this remarkable album, writing all the song herself and singing them. It is probably the earliest known attempt at making what is now known as Christian rockabilly music.

Not much else is known about Isabel Baker or this record other than it was released on the Wichita, KS label Romco (not Ronco) Records. And almost nobody bought it. This record resurfaced in the last few years in the record collector underground and is now a cult favourite amongst the aficionados of strange and bizarre records. But there is more to this album than just cult. This is actually musically a brilliant album! Yes, the playing and singing is rough, but also authentic. There is a special 'feel' about this album. Personally I love this album to death and the only reason for parting with it, is the fact I found a second copy. That in itself is pretty amazing, as copies rarely come up for sale and if they do the prices range from 600-800 USD for a VG+ copy. I have never seen an EX or M copy of this album. Ever.

So what about this copy? The cover rates as VG++ and is actually better than my current copy - it's just that mine is signed. No seam splits, no bend corners, minimal ring wear. Some foxing on reverse as with all copies of this album. See the scans of the actual item. Now the vinyl: I would rate this as G+. The reason for this is that this copy features scratches (pops and clicks, some background noise from the vinyl used in the pressing) and a mild warp (might be fixable, but plays without problem on my Thorens turntable with adjusted needle pressure) and a mark on one track per side (causing a brief 'woosh' sound). Had this been a VG+ copy I would sell this at 600 USD, but it's not. That is the reason I'm letting this go cheap.
