Ostensibly, along with Duane Eddy’s "Have Guitar…" album, this was one of the first two or three Rock & Roll albums ever recorded in TRUE STEREO. And, what a glorious LIVING STEREO it is! From the opening holler of the Gospel-laden "When the Saints go marchin’ in" to the closing SHOUT of their self-titled mega-super-ultra-uber-monster hit (covered by practically everyone in the Universe, and beyond), this majestic, wide-channel stereo recording sucks you into the world of its own; you will feel that you are in some strange space, surrounded by three VERY spiritual-sounding voices. The Isleys, of course, were barely of legal age when this album came out (actually, Ronald was only 16), but their professionalism, good judgment, maturity and perfect sense of timing - all their trademarks - were absolutely obvious and at display even at this early stage. The songs are: When the Saints - St Louis Blues - Yes, Indeed - How deep is the ocean - Ring-a-ling-a-ling (Let the wedding bells ring) - Rock around the clock - He’s got the whole world in his hands - That lucky old sun - Respectable - Without a song - Shout (parts 1 & 2) . Even the mono version of this album is perversely hard to find in good condition, let alone as LIVING STEREO version in NEAR MINT condition And, of course, there’s the cover: the classic cover which can easily be framed and displayed as a work of modern photo art (a great example of photo chiarroscurro, if you wish). (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Stereo pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(e)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NEAR MINT !

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-         No peel-off marks

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No glue traces or wax residue.

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
