ISTVAN KERTESZ - Dvorak No.5 LP Decca WBG 1ED SXL 2289 UK - 1962 - Gatefold Slv
Very rare first issue Decca SXL LP. This was the only album in the series ever to feature a gatefold sleeve. This symphony was recorded a few years later with the LSO and the SXL issue was deleted. You know all this though.The vinyl is in EX condition, it looks Mint apart from two very, very minor marks only visible at a certain angle, under bright light. There is a touch of crackle in some quiet passages and one or two light pops here and there. It was playgraded on a Technics SP10mkII with an SME V tonearm and a Clearaudio Victory low output MC cartridge into a Whest PS.30 RDT phono stage - a very revealing set up and it sounded stunning.
It's been professionally cleaned on a Moth RCM II with Keith Monks fluid and lives in a NOS Discwasher VRP anti-static sleeve (from my dwindling personal stash). The original inner sleeve is also included, it's in Excellent condition.
The sleeve isn't so great. The laminate has shrunk a little and caused the card to bow. It's also yellowed somewhat due to age and the glue holding the gatefold flap has failed. I'd grade it VG if I was being harsh - it's well over 50 years old.
It will be very well packed, in a "pizza box" mailer with at least four stiffeners.
