First three volumes of Trojan's compilation LP series
Tighten Up Volume 1 (1969) ,volume 2 (1969) & volume 3 (1970)
Triple LP set of 36 tracks from Trojan Records UK containing classic tracks covering the evolution of Reggae. Each LP contains twelve excellent tracks pressed on thick black vinyl. In the late sixties & early seventies Trojan Records dominated the UK Reggae market. Between 1969 and 1974, over 30 Trojan singles reached the UK Top 40, almost half made the top ten. Jamaican LPs had little success, until Trojan released the budget priced (14/-6d) Tighten up series of compilation LPs. From the early to mid 60s mods pioneered a cult following for Jamaican music, but apart from Prince Buster it had little chart success until Desmond Dekker's 007 in 1967. Trojan issued four singles in 1969 which reached the UK top 30 with The Upsetters, The Pioneers, Jimmy Cliff & the Harry J All Stars. All these hits are featured in this collection. Tighten up 1 quickly became an essential Skinhead record.
The cover is laminated on the front. The original orange & black 14/6 price sticker is defaced but visible on two of the LP's. The covers are split, due to the glue drying up, but each LP comes with an additional strong transparent heavy duty cover.
Please don't expect these records to look & sound brand new. Considering they are
over 45 years old they are in reasonable condition. They're all playable & represent
an interesting part of the history of Jamaican music.
