Originally released in 1976 on KUDU / CTI Records, House of the Rising Sun is one of drummer Idris Muhammad’s most celebrated albums as a bandleader. A prolific musician with nearly 500 recording credits, Muhammad was among the most sampled drummers in contemporary music. Produced by Creed Taylor and arranged by David Matthews (with “Sudan” arranged by Tom Harrell), the album blends soul, funk, and jazz into a sleek CTI sound. The sessions featured top New York studio musicians, including David Sanborn, Michael Brecker, Don Grolnick, Fred Wesley, Joe Beck, and Patti Austin. With its iconic title track and rich orchestrations, "House of the Rising Sun" remains a standout in Muhammad’s extensive discography.

Idris Muhammad is a American jazz drummer and bandleader and is one of contemporary music's most sampled drummers. His resume includes nearly 500 recording credits that range across the genre spectrum and 12 studio albums as a bandleader, including the 1976 House Of The Rising Sun. The track "Sudan" is arranged by jazz trumpeter Tom Harrell. The album features several guest performances by New York studio aces, including Joe Beck, Don Grolnick, David Sanborn, Fred Wesley and Michael Brecker amongst others.
