Iggy Pop ?– The Idiot, UK first edition (PL 12275), Rare 12" Vinyl Album, 1977
This is the rare UK first edition in matte card picture sleeve, printed in black & white half-tone and on orange RCA Victor matte paper labels. This pressing has a lyre symbol etched in the matrix run-out area on side A, indicating mastering at Utopia Studios.
Legendary album - probably Iggy Pop's solo career highlight - with David Bowie at the controls (and backing vocals), mixed by Tony Visconti and featuring Carlos Alomar on guitar on the first track, Sister Midnight. It really doesn't get better than this - the blueprint for many alternative rock albums that followed and you can hear the classic Bowie textures. Full of ideas, noise and sleaze. Feels properly analogue (famous Hansa Tonstudios, Berlin) with real 'presence' on vinyl.
The vinyl has been cleaned with the Spin Clean system and is looking and sounding great, with no major surface noise - given it is 39 years old it's in great condition. Sleeve is in pretty decent condition given the age; a sticker mark to top left of front cover, some rubbing at corner edges and you can see the shape of the record beneath on both sides - but doesn't detract. Graphics are essentially good and bright both sides.
