Released by Immediate in 1968; this is very rare, UK issue of “Give Me Take You” by Duncan Browne.

I acquired this copy from the family of the deceased original owner in 2005. The owner was one of the early sixties DJ’s who lead what can only be described as the swinging sixties lifestyle. He wasn’t particularly good – we have reel to reel tapes of some of his performances at the Brighton Ballroom – but clearly he knew the right people and mixed with the right people and maintained a career in music broadcasting, production and club DJ until his enforced retirement due to ill health.

The original owner accumulated a huge collection of vinyl, but had no concept of value or worth. We discovered this album amongst a random box, undisturbed for decades. He concentrated on northern soul so the vast majority of the collection was played once upon receipt to review, and then put away into storage.

I seem to recall from previous issues of the Record Collector Price Guide that there is some debate over whether this record was ever given a full release or whether this album suffered the same fate at Billy Nicholls “Would You Believe” or PP Arnold’s “The First Lady Of Immediate”. Suffice to say, UK copies of “Give Me Take You” do not surface that often as opposed to the much more common US issue.

Sleeve

The sleeve has suffered some water/damp damage at some point in its life. It has the tell-tale lightly rippled feel to the lower edge of the sleeve and there is some light staining just inboard of the spine on the front of sleeve. There is some fading to the spine area and noticeable ringwear to the front and rear. On the plus side, the seams of the sleeve are undamaged with no signs of wear or splitting. This is not a worn sleeve due to use or handling – it is damaged due to poor storage by someone who just didn’t have a clue. Grade? Well, very good? Good? Somewhere in the middle. Judge for youself from the pictures.

Inner Sleeve

The record comes in a plain, white inner paper sleeve. It has “Made in Great Britain” in the lower right corner and “Patents Applied For” in the lower left corner. You can tell this is the original inner sleeve as it has slight staining from the outer sleeve and rippling consistent with water contact. For security and to prevent any possible wear I have stored the record in a modern poly-lined inner sleeve and the record will come thus contained along with the original inner.

Insert

The rare insert has the same water damage as the cover/inner sleeve. There is a marked impression of the record, but the actual physical state of the insert is undamaged so far as there are no rips/tears or actual handling wear.

Record Labels

The record labels are clean, no writing and have been lucky to have missed the water damage. There is one spindle mark on the side two label. Clearly, this record has not been played very much!

Playing Surfaces

The record looks like new – there are no surface marks, no hairlines, nothing. Every visual indication is that this record is in MINT condition.

I have only given this record one test play and as with the Billy Nicholls’ LP, there is the odd little pop and crackle. This is to be expected from a 41 year old record that’s probably only been played 2/3 times at most. A remarkable piece of vinyl and probably the best you could ever wish to find.

Postage and Packing

The record will be packed in a “pizza style” box with copious card and bubble wrap. The sleeve will be packed individually so as to prevent any damage in transit. It will also be enclosed in a polythene sleeve so that if the package comes into contact with water (again!) it will not get wet. The record will likewise be so protected.

Postage maybe listed as free, but there is no way on this planet this record will be sent by anything other than a secure postal service. Likely costs are £6.70 UK, £13.50 for European destinations and £18.70 for USA and the Rest of the World. Payment by Paypal is preferred from verified users and will only be sent to a confirmed delivery address. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
