Description

This week I have a very rare and unique collection of acetates that belonged to Birmingham, AL native Hugh Martin, renowned  Broadway song writer (who worked with collaborator Richard Blane) on musicals such as Meet Me In St. Louis. Too Many Girls, Cabin In The Sky, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and many others. Hugh played piano accompaniment for Judy Garland at some of her most famous performances. Quoted as saying “I don't write for money, I write for love.” His  song Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is one of the most recorded Christmas songs of all time.   Many are studio samples on Acetate over glass, some more typical acetate over metal. As you’d expect the sound quality on these is decent to not so good. I cleaned the discs careful with distilled water and a soft brush, that’s all, to remove obvious dirt and debris. Amazing and unique behind the scenes recording from Hollywoods Golden Era. These records  will require special packing and priority shipping with insurance.

This is an original, maybe the ONLY  existing Studio Acetate of Judy Garland Performing Boys and Girls Like You and Me from Meet Me in St. Louis. This song was deleted from the movie. The record is acetate on glass, 12”, with a red label that states:  “THE SOUND WORKSHOP” COPY 12/30/43 “BOYS AND GIRLS LIKE YOU AND ME” MGM 26907. Printed on one side only. Minor scuffing, delicate and extremely fragile.
