I wonder if there was a meeting that went like this in the Beach Boys record company in 1977:
Record exec: The Beach Boys new album's certainly an odd one. It's almost enitely written by Brian Wilson coming out of a process of mental and drug rehabilitation. The music is sparse, almost experimental and uses synthesisers. Its lyrics are honest, unpretentious, painfully frank. It's an idiosynchratic and creative oddity that the more sensitive of Brian's fans will come to treasure. But how do we market it?
Advertsing exec: That's a tough one. [Thinks for a moment.] I've got it! How about a poster of a chick that looks a bit like Farah Fawcett in a cut-off T-shirt not wearing a bra, saying "Hi, I'm Kathy".
Record exec: Far out, man! That's it! Let's get the posters done.
1977 American poster produced for Tampa, Florida (I believe different versions may have been printed for different US cities)
Poster in excellent condition, showing hardly any signs of its 40 years of age. Please study pictures for best indication.
Measures approximately 24" (64cm) by 35" (89cm), and has been stored rolled and never folded.
Will be posted rolled in a tube.
