YOKOUCHI SHOJI - "INVADERS FROM MARS" – RARE JAP SPACEY FUNK OST LP!!!
Lavish artwork on this groovy re-scoring of the 50’s sci-fi chiller. But hey, I’m partial to any record featuring a disembodied, gnarly alien brain-thing on the jacket. So I may be biased. The film is a classic tale of cold war paranoia, as little Jimmy notices his parents have been possessed by extra-terrestrial forces, and – as you do - sets about saving the world!
The film was re-released in Japan in the late seventies, and a new soundtrack was commissioned to bring the sonics bang up to date. And. . . here’s the LP of it! As you might expect, it’s quite spacey, with lots of exotic effects and some moody moog action. There are a few suspenseful cuts, but a lot of this is dramatic fusion jazz with some phat conga percussion and a real library vibe to it. Here’s a comprehensive soundclip – I think I initially underrated this, as there’s definitely plenty on here to sample, with tasty Japanese jazz licks throughout. . .

As noted, what a cover! There are also some more lovely pictures on the reverse of the sleeve AND a slick, 4 page colour insert into the bargain! AND a lurid green OBI! Cor.
Now that’s what I call presentation. Definitely a rare one I’ve not seen on the ‘Bay prior, and a great source of obscure asian samples – if that’s your bag (it is mine, in case you hadn’t noticed).

GRADING:
RECORD is NM, lovely shiny copy!
COVER is EX, some light overall wear. OBI has a small nick out of the back, and the insert is in lovely glossy M condition.
