Minus the Herd — Limited Edition Silver Vinyl LP
Album OverviewReleased in June 2007 through Abacus Recordings and Century Media, Minus the Herd is the definitive pivot point where Montreal mathcore pioneers Ion Dissonance officially traded pure, lightning-fast chaos for absolute, low-tuned crushing weight. Following their legendary early tech-metal milestones Breathing Is Irrelevant and Solace, this third full-length album represents a calculated shift toward massive, slow-rolling grooves, heavy polyrhythms, and complex, angular timing shifts. It stands as a highly influential, polarizing relic of the late-2000s technical metalcore and burgeoning deathcore movements. Pressed on rare silver vinyl, this variant is a highly sought-after trophy for heavy music vinyl collectors.
Album History & Production Details- The Vocal Shift: This was the definitive studio debut of vocalist Kevin McCaughey (formerly of Shaolin), stepping in after the departure of original frontman Gabriel McCaughry. McCaughey brought a noticeably heavier, more direct, hardcore-infused edge to the band's delivery.
- The Zeuss Touch: The album was engineered and mixed at Planet-Z in Hadley, Massachusetts by legendary heavy-music producer Zeuss (known for his work with Hatebreed, The Acacia Strain, and Shadows Fall). Zeuss gave the record an incredibly dense, punishing production style, turning tracks like "The Surge," "Kneel," and "Void of Conscience" into absolute exercises in sheer tectonic force.
- Musical Style: If you are a fan of calculated, asymmetric riffs reminiscent of Meshuggah paired with the unadulterated weight of 2000s metallic hardcore, this is the definitive centerpiece of that style.
- Vinyl Media: Near Mint Minus (NM-) / EX — Beautiful condition. The silver wax retains its full glossy luster, showing virtually no notable signs of handling or play. A fantastic, clean audio file archive copy.
- Jacket / Cover: Very Good Plus (VG+) — Crisp and well-preserved jacket with sharp corners and strong edges. Shows only light, standard shelf handling/storage wear consistent with careful archiving. Please review the high-resolution photos to view spine integrity and edge details.
