*I am currently selling a collection of Heavy Metal and rock LPs, predominantly from the late 70’s to the early 90’s but with the odd outlier thrown in. All well looked after and some real rarities. I combine shipping and always remove the vinyl from the sleeve before packing and posting. Where anything other than a generic white inner is present, the vinyl is always placed in a brand new white inner to preserve the original. Brand new ‘clear glass’ plastic sleeves are added to all LPs. I describe items accurately as I know how disappointing it is to receive a much anticipated record where flaws have been glossed over or gone unmentioned. I try to listen to each record before describing it but if I don’t have time I will listen to selected parts to gauge the level of background noise and I will always listen to any passages where there are surface marks to judge the impact these have. I always give positive feedback after payment so the customer is able to give feedback purely judged on the service once they have received the item. This album celebrated its 40th anniversary recently - it was released on April 14th 1980 and recently featured in a blog on discogs:
Iron Maiden’s debut was part of the explosion of metal in England that soon took off around the world. It’s a heady mix of classic Sabbath-style metal, the aggression of punk and the virtuosic speed-based musicianship that was a hallmark of ‘80s metal. Perhaps most importantly it gave the world Eddie, the album’s cover boy and the greatest mascot in rock and roll. The original UK vinyl pressing is one of the few with the full-length version of “Phantom of the Opera” but is getting more pricey every minute.
Value has remained lower than expected over the years due to some confusion about the first pressing as many later pressings retained the A1 B1 stamp on the runout.
However, there are now a number of generally accepted 1st pressing attributes and prices are rising:
More difficult than many believe to find a true first press as later presses retained the A1 B1 matrices.
On the bottom, the original labels have credits on two lines and no "?" symbol is present.
The original inner sleeve is black with plastic bag inside and patent no: 1,125,555 printed in white in tiny print to the bottom left corner.
On the sleeve, the catalogue number "EMC 3330" is printed on the rear sleeve, spine and face labels. "OC 062-07 269" is printed on the rear sleeve. There is NO Barcode.
This pressing, along with only a handful of others, features the complete version of "Phantom Of The Opera" which is 7:20 in length.
This is a beautiful copy of the first press. Near Mint vinyl, seemingly barely played if at all. Inner and outer sleeve are Ex+ with only very minor handling or storage wear. Super vibrant copy.
Includes a newspaper advert for the Reading Festival 1980 where Maiden took second billing to UFO, one of the band’s major influences and the band who are of course responsible for ‘Doctor, Doctor’, a song that all Maiden fans who’ve seen them live will know and love!
Great chance to own a near Mint copy of this seminal album.
