Iron Maiden
Piece Of Mind
Very rarely seen on eBay, this is the Portuguese 1st pressing of Piece Of Mind from May 1983.
This pressing is particularly sought after as the final song on side two is listed as ‘Dune’ instead of ‘To Tame a Land’ both on the back of the sleeve and also on the label of the vinyl itself.
Furthermore, the playing time of the song on the label of this 1st pressing is printed as 7.37 when in fact it should be 7.26.
Interestingly, on the inside of the gatefold, the song is referred to correctly as ‘To Tame a Land’ with the correct playing time of 7.26.
The name of the song was only changed to ‘To Tame a Land’ at the eleventh hour because Frank Herbert, the author of the novel Dune which the song is based on, refused permission for the name of his book to be used as the title of the song. His agent is famously quoted as replying to the band’s request:
‘No. Because Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like Iron Maiden."
However, this initial Portuguese pressing slipped through the net and has become an essential component of many Iron Maiden collections since.
The sleeve is in VG condition but the vinyl is visually excellent+, near to mint condition - no marks visible and no spindle marks on the labels - and plays through beautifully. The inner sleeve is plain white.
