EMI 1984
An interesting 'hybrid' copy of Maiden's classic fifth abum in as many years, introducing the first 10 minute plus epic in 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' which set the template for even more progressive and complex musical explorations to come, without perhaps ever topping this original 13 minute classic. This copy is a first UK press with A-1U/B-1U matrix codes, 'THERE'S ONLY ONE UM' / THATS XXXX UM etchings; and in the first issue textured sleeve. What makes this copy interesting is the 'PRICE ATTACK' hype sticker. 'Price Attack' is seen as an EMI subsidiary label in itself - a campaign by EMI in the late 1980s/90s that allocated unique catalogue numbers to previous releases, but where the new code was only shown on the sticker. Baiscally, the restickering of existing stock - Powerslave was allocated the code 'ATAK 96'. It is unusual to find this sticker on a first pressing, it is normally associated with later pressings with non-textured sleeves. I considered removing the label but decided that it adds to rather than detracts from this particular record!
VINYL:
Appearing very lightly played with just a couple of spindle marks in evidence when angled to the light on the otherwise pristine labels - Some light marks visible on close inspection on the otherwise glossy playing surfaces. Plays very well throughout except for one split second jump near the start of Aces High which is why it is not graded higher. Has the very first issue matrix codes. Very Good+
SLEEVE:
A superb example. First issue 'orange peel' texturing and with 'PRICE ATTACK ATAK 96' sticker attached. No signs of wear. Excellent ++
INNER/INSERTS:
Superb original printed inner sleeve with square corners (There is also a rounded corners variant).
