Fifth Release in Universal's New Iron Maiden Vinyl Picture Disc Series!
Pressed on Gatefold Heavyweight Vinyl Cut from the Original Album Master Tapes!
Starting in October of 2012, Universal Music Enterprises will be issuing an ongoing series of special limited edition Iron Maiden vinyl picture disc albums. Comprised of the first eight albums of Iron Maiden's career, all released in the 1980's, each picture disc will be packaged in a gatefold cover with full color printed inner sleeves and pressed on heavyweight vinyl cut from the original album master tapes. These vinyl picture discs are being released to commemorate Iron Maiden's current Maiden England tour which comprises largely 80’s material.
The albums will be released chronologically between October of 2012 and February of 2013, starting with Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981) in October, followed by The Number of the Beast (1982) and Piece Of Mind (1983) in November. To open the new year Powerslave (1984) and Live After Death (1985) will be released in January, while the final two titles, Somewhere In Time (1986) and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988) will close out the series in February.
1984's Powerslave is Iron Maiden's fifth album overall and the third in a career defining trilogy of classic heavy metal releases that also includes The Number of the Beast (1982) and Piece Of Mind (1984). The fact that Powerslave was the first Maiden album to feature the same line-up as its predecessor is evident in the album's excellent execution and ability to implement all of the band's hallmarks definitively. The epic 8-song set features the quintessential singles "Aces High" and "2 Minutes to Midnight," not to mention an ambitious 13-minute plus adaptation of the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" which would become a concert staple.
