J. J JOHNSON – THE EMINENT JAY JAY JOHNSON - VOLUME 1 – BLUE NOTE 1505 – EX/EX – LEXINGTON AVE. – MONO
There are two sessions on this LP. The first on Side 1 was recorded on June 22, 1953, featuring J.J. Johnson on trombone, Clifford Brown on trumpet, Jimmy Heath on tenor and baritone, John Lewis on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. SIDE 1: TURNPIKE; LOVER MAN; GET HAPPY; SKETCH 1 and CAPRI. Side 2 was recorded on September 24, 1954 featuring J.J. Johnson on trombone, Wynton Kelly on piano, Charlie Mingus on bass, Kenny Clarke on drums and Sabu on conga. SIDE 2: JAY; OLD DEVIL MOON; IT’S YOU OR NO ONE; TOO MARVELOUS FOR WORDS and COFFE POT. On The record label is “767 Lexington Ave NYC”. Stamped into the blank vinyl are the initials “RVG” and an “Ear” on both sides. The address on the record jacket is “767 Lexington Ave,. New York 21.” This is MONO recording.
I have graded both the vinyl and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl is clear on any marks on both sides. There are a few marks around the spindle hole. There appears to be some surface marks, which have no effect with play. They may be in the vinyl. There is no surface noise. The record jacket just misses a M- rating, but there are a few signs on wear on the cover and some very slight discoloration on the liner notes. There are no taped seams.
