J. R. R. TOLKIEN: Reads And Sings His The Lord Of The Rings (US Caedmon, TC 1478, 1975, LP)
This includes an advertising insert for the Tolkien records plus records by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy (and Arthur C. Clarke)! One for Star Trek (and 2001) fanatics. See the photo.
This includes Tolkien reading (and singing!) from pre-published versions of The Two Towers and The Return of the King. He was recorded on a Ferrograph by an amateur tape recordist and the tapes survived, even though done informally. It was hearing his stories played back that made him continue looking for a publisher. This is history, this is!
There is a mistake on the first track, which is the Lament for Boromir from the banks of the River Running near Rauros Falls. Tolkien can be heard turning the pages of his manuscript, and he says "the son of Boromir" instead of "the son of Denethor". there may be other inaccuracies, based on the fact that Tolkien altered much of the text following publication. That was the only bit I spotted about forty years ago. . The sleeve is VG. The record plays nicely - mostly EX - though with some light, unobtrusive, background here and there, a couple of short bouts of light 'tics', and a couple of random, non-repeating clicks. Side 2 seems to have a bit more of what I took to be vinyl 'rumble' but which might actually be noise from the original reel-to-reel recordings - certainly the original recording quality/clarity varies here and there. I only played it (carefully) a few times at most from new so a proper clean on a proper deep-clean washer will probably leave a fully EX listening experience. Certainly, the vinyl still looks near new. The insert is VG. Overall a very nice condition copy.
* * * * Records generally have hairline marks from going in and out of sleeves - I do not mention these unless they cause audible noise. All records are play tested unless explicitly stated otherwise. Most of the records I am selling play at "Excellent" or "Very Good" as per Record Collector grading. Any specific defects are otherwise described in the listing. Please look at the photos carefully for condition of sleeves/labels.

If items are bid above £50.00 (or multiple items combine to more than £50), they will be sent as Royal Mail Special Delivery, so that parcels are correctly insured against loss or damage in transit. Where possible, packaging will be recycled but sturdy/secure.
Combined postage *for UK buyers only* - 6 single LPs costs the same to post as 1 single LP. Note that if you win items in multiple formats, (e.g., an LP and a CD), these have to be sent as multiple parcels (though I can bundle up 7" records with an LP).

* * * * Unless stated otherwise, all items are from my own collection. Most has been in storage for nearly 20 years. Lockdowns made me wonder why I have multiple copies of records that I will never listen to. There are about 8,000 more items to come from my rambling progressive, jazz fusion, folk, blues, 1950s stereo classical and easy listening, psychedelic, reggae, ambient, spoken word, comedy, railway, field recordings, electronic and occasionally just plain 'out there' collection.
