Description
Jackie Lomax was a long time acquaintance of the Beatles, having performed in the same Hamburg clubs in the early sixties, fronting his own band The Undertakers. When the Beatles were launching their own record label,Apple, John Lennon persuaded Lomax to sign with Apple. The song "Sour Milk Sea" was written by George Harrison with the intent of including it on the white album "The Beatles". It was not included on that album and instead George Harrison produced this recording for Jackie Lomax, as the third single release on the Apple label. The backing for Lomax on this single included Ringo Starr on drums, Paul McCartney on bass, George Harrison on rhythm guitar, Eric Clapton on lead guitar and Nick Hopkins on piano(Jackie Lomax also played rhythm guitar). This is the only recording where more than two of the Beatles appeared on another artist's recording.

Surprisingly considering the all star backing, this single did not chart in the UK, it reached 117 on the Billboard chart in the US and elsewhere made only a minor impression, hence the rarity. It is a great single , there are several audio clips of both of these songs on you tube, you can hear for yourself. This is the Australian pressing from 1968 (The first release of this song in Australia was actually on Parlophone released with the same catalogue in the same year, a few weeks later it came out on the Apple label).
The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny, with only a few minor scuffs, both sides play loud and clear (VG) both labels are clean however the label on side two has a mark just above the centre hole which looks as though there was a sticky label removed.(see photo 4) The cover is an Apple company sleeve and this is also in good condition,with only some minor creasing, no writing or stickers and no tears or splits (VG).
