JACKIE MCLEAN - STEEPLECHASE (originally called "Jackie's Pal" when first released in 1956)

An impressive condition copy of this 1964 increasingly sought after re-press on Prestige Records, MONO, NJLP 8290

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  Hand etched NJ 8290 A, and "RVG" and "AB"

Side 2  Hand etched NJ 8290 B, and "RVG" and "AB"

 Beautiful, nicely weighted, glossy, jet black A/B matrix and etched "RVG" vinyl, but there are two small areas of light (but just feelable) scratch marks on track 1, side 1 (see photos) resulting in some mild interference/crackle when the stylus passes over those areas, towards the beginning and again towards the end of this track - no skips or jumps or repeats and although the interference is mild it is audible - apart from these two blemishes the condition of the vinyl is truly excellent plus; pristine, textured PRESTIGE labels, with not even the usual one or two faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole; overall excellent condition original thick cardboard outer sleeve (still in original cellophane) with virtually no edge scuffing but does have a 4cm split in the middle of the bottom edge, and a 1cm top right corner split; original plain white inner sleeve with small splits on each edge (I will supply a brand new plain white inner sleeve); fantastic quality mono audio with terrific tone and clarity even at higher volume and frequency - no clicking or background interference at all (apart from the aforementioned mild background crackle on track 1, side 1). A nice copy of this 1964 re-press with true high quality MONO audio reproduction (the only glitch being the light, intermittent background crackle for 1min 15sec towards the beginning of track 1, side 1 and again for 40 seconds towards the end of the same track - the overall excellent, glossy and otherwise unmarked condition of this vinyl suggests that it has been sparingly played), now becoming hard to find and will only continue to increase in value. Jazz greats in top form : Jackie Mclean, alto sax; Bill Hardman, trumpet; Mal Waldron, piano; Paul Chambers, bass, Phillie Joe Jones, drums. Great stuff, with every track making for a great listen!

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
