The fifth studio album by the Jackson 5, Maybe Tomorrow arrived in April 1971 on the back of "I'll Be There" — the best-selling single in Motown history. Where their early records leaned into uptempo pop-funk, Maybe Tomorrow is a more ballad-heavy record, reflecting the group's growing maturity and Michael's extraordinary vocal command at just twelve years old.

The album produced two charting singles: "Never Can Say Goodbye," which reached number two on the pop charts, and the title track "Maybe Tomorrow," a showcase for Michael's range and control. It spent six weeks at number one on the US Soul Albums chart. The arrangements were handled by Gene Page and James Carmichael alongside The Corporation — the Motown production team responsible for the group's run of number one hits. Side two stretches into deeper album cuts including "My Little Baby," "Honey Chile," and the closing "I Will Find A Way."

Original US First Pressing on Motown MS-735. The blue map label with rainbow gradient Motown logo is correct for the original 1971 issue. This copy carries the first gatefold cover variant — "maybe tomorrow" and "Jackson 5ive" appear on the front cover in yellow script without black outline, the identifying detail of the earliest pressing run.

The lacquer date 3-15-71 is present in the deadwax on both sides — March 15, 1971, nearly four weeks before the April 12 release date. This is the first lacquer cutting, pressed by RCA.
