Jackson Heights
'Bump 'N' Grind'
Vertigo, UK, 1973
6360 092
THIRD AND final album from this highly respected if ultimately unsuccessful progressive rock band formed by Lee Jackson, who was of course previously with the Nice. Those expecting Jackson to return with a full-on progressive rock powerhouse were sadly disapointed. Instead, although like the Nice the band was a three piece, the music refelcted a far more inticate and laid back vibe - very much in keeping with the rural prog scene peddled by the likes of Traffic, Help Yourself and Matthews Southern Comfort.
Arguably their best album, the band decided to toughen up their music by ditching the rural folk influences and getting a bit more proggy and uptempo. Not that they went full-on prog you understand, more use of electric instruments including clavinet and moog supported by bigger and brighter guitar chords. Actually a very well recorded and produced record.
Oddly enough, despite the fact that it never appeared as a swirl Vertigo release this appears to be the hardest Jackson Heights album to find. Strange but true.
