This album was featured in a recent Record Collector article on 70's singer/songwriters whose work is creeping up in value.
Basically an acoustic folk-rock album but with country and blues overtones. Jaki Whitren herself plays banjo and guitar as well as her singer-songwriter duties. Session personnel include some regulars of the period - Gerry Conway, Frank Ricotti and Pat Donaldson for example. Somebody called Henry the Eighth contributes jugband noises on one track! Jaki Whitren's bluesy vocals reflect the album title, ranging from soft and sweet to powerful and angst-ridden. There is a pastoral feel to the lyrics and a sense of longing..
Whitren was born in 1954. She was managed by Stuart Cowell (ex-Titus Groan) who also produced her album. It appears that she began to work to a second album for CBS, but this never saw the light of day.
She also turned up as a vocalist along with John Cartwright and others on one of Jess Roden's Island label albums. In 1983 she recorded an album with John Cartwright International Times (Living Rec. LR1) 1983, and they have more recently been involved in a project called Court of Miracles. She also sang with French progressive band Minimum Vital in 1993.
Jaki Whitren also sang on the track Some Other Time on the album I, Robot by the Alan Parsons Project.
The sleeve has a little ringwear on the rear & a few minor creases, but is otherwise excellent. The vinyl itself is in near mint condition. The lyric sheet is present. It even has the original Epic/CBS inner sleeve, advertising other contemporary releases. All in all, a very nice copy.
