“THE PURIFY BROTHERS, JAMES and BOBBY, as we know them, took the American record business by storm with their smash hit recording of
“I’M YOUR PUPPET” in the fall of 1966.
Jimmy and Bobby, who are brothers in real life, were born and raised in Pensacola, Florida. After forming their own group and touring many cities and states, they went back to Pensacola, where “I’M YOUR PUPPET” was brought to their attention. However, the song did not impress them at first.
“I’M YOUR PUPPET”, recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, considered to be the Soul recording capital of the South, was then brought to Bell Records, released, and in no time, TOP 5 in the U.S.A.
As time goes by, JAMES and BOBBY will become one of the top recording duo’s in the country, of which there are few. If you have any doubts, listen to some of the great tracks on this LP: “DON’T BLAME MY HEART” and “I’VE GOT EVERYTHING” stand out the most, both lyrically and musically. As for the other cuts, nothing more need to be said: just listen – and to Papa Don we say, THANKS FOR GIVING US – JAMES and BOBBY PURIFY”
