One of the sharpest James Brown albums of the early Polydor era. There It Is pulled together five of his biggest early-'70s singles into a single LP — the loose, rap-forward groove of "Talkin' Loud and Sayin' Nothing," the driving horn work on the title track, and the eerie spoken-word warning of "King Heroin." "Public Enemy #1" closes side two with some of the hardest-hitting horn charts Brown cut in this period.

This is an original US Promotional First Pressing on Polydor, PD-5028.

1E in the deadwax on both sides, indicating this copy is an original-run first Lacquer Cut.

Polydor pressed this title across several contracted plants at once to keep up with demand and the lettered lacquer designations reflect that multi-plant distribution. Columbia Pitman, Santa Maria, Terre Haute and Monarch all received pairs of Original 1st Lacquers.

Mastered at Sterling Sound by Robert Ludwig, (RL etched in the deadwax on both sides)

Ludwig became one of the most in-demand mastering engineers of the era, cutting classic rock records for Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, and countless R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz artists throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

The jacket carries a clipped bottom right corner with matching clip on the inner. This was standard practice for identifying commercially pressed promotional copies distributed to radio and press rather than sold as retail.
