James Taylor's second record "Sweet Baby James" is a true classic of pop history, and it has now been reissued with great effort. The outer appearance alone with a heavy hard cardboard cover gives a valuable impression, which is then only reinforced by the excellent sound quality. No wonder, because the remastering comes from the original analog tapes, of course by none other than Steve Hoffman! James Taylor's warm, slightly nasal voice became a trademark on his debut of the same name in 1968, and from then on Taylor was one of the most important singer/songwriters of that era. He still inspires with fine, timeless folk and blues compositions today: In addition to the well-known "Fire And Rain", with which he stormed the charts, we also hear such strong numbers as "Steamroller" and "Suite For 20G", which feature rich brass could come up with. With "Oh Susannah" he has dedicated himself to a traditional gospel, "Country Road" is also well known. Instrumentally, we not only like Taylor's acoustic guitar, but also the crisp rock sound of his band, which also included Carole King on piano and Randy Meissner on bass! ..........

James Taylors zweite Platte „Sweet Baby James“ ist ein echter Klassiker der Popgeschichte, zurecht wurde sie nun mit viel Aufwand wiederaufgelegt. Schon alleine die äußere Erscheinung mit einem schweren Hartkarton-Cover verbreitet einen wertigen Eindruck, der dann von der exzellenten Klangqualität nur noch verstärkt wird. Kein Wunder auch, denn das Remastering stammt von den Original Analogbändern, natürlich von keinem geringeren als Steve Hoffman! James Taylors warme, leicht nasale Stimme wurde schon bei seinem gleichnamigen Debüt 1968 zum Markenzeichen, Taylor zählte fortan zu den wichtigsten Singer/Songwritern jener Ära. Mit feinen, zeitlosen Folk- und Blueskompositionen begeistert er noch heute: Neben dem bekannten „Fire And Rain“, mit dem er die Charts stürmte, hören wir auch so starke Nummern wie „Steamroller“ und „Suite For 20G“, die mit satten Bläsern aufwarten konnten.
