Description
HERE for your consideration is an ultra rare original mono copy of the highly regarded acid-folk LP Sorcerers by Jan Dukes De Grey on Decca nova (DN 8) from 1969. The fine slab of vinyl on offer here is somewhat let down by its cover, which nevertheless remains fully intact, fully informative and fairly presentable.
LABELS/VINYL: Both labels are in VG+ condition with no unwanted writing or tears and only showing a moderate amount of spindle activity when angled under strong halogen lighting. Both sides of the vinyl are in strong VG+ condition with only a few of the lightest hairlines and scuffmarks showing when examined under strong halogen lighting.
PLAYBACK: Both sides play perfectly all the way through without skips or jumps, and with almost no background noise, pops or clicks. This is a fabulous slab of vinyl which delivers the full mono experience - clear, bright and punchy.
SLEEVE: Despite its wonderfully imaginative artwork, the front laminated single sleeve is only in Good condition with plentiful creasing, particularly in the vicinity of the outline of the record within, some laminate lift and a little laminate loss, as shown in the photos. The unlaminated rear panel with its mono/stereo peephole retains all of its text (which offers an interesting artist's insight into the conception of the songs) but suffers from some soiling, ringwear and rubbing, again as shown in the photos.
But what a wonderful music. Envisage this band recording their album from inside a meditation tent erected in a studio. In the latest issue of Flashback magazine, producer David Hitchcock reveals this and more, including the sad inevitable fact that "the album sold next to nothing".
