Description

Very rare pressing of great violinist Jan Kubelik playing Ambrosio's Serenade and Wieniawski's Scherzo Tarantella, on the 10.5" Societa Italiana Fonotipia label, nos. 39191 and 39884. Recorded circa 1907. Both sides are "signed" in blue ink and both sides also have a signature in the original master wax, which can be seen poking from behind the labels. Anyhow these Fonotipia records sound really special, much better than Victor or Columbia pressings of similar music. These are top recordings of the time, and are gorgeous early violin recordings for anyone who loves that sort of thing. This copy is in great condition as well, with some light wear but not much. The grooves don't seem terribly worn and the music plays quite clearly with little noise. There is a sort of smudge or ding or something on one side but it plays through with only light ticking for a moment. This is a great copy, hard to beat.
