Description

Jane Bond & The Undercovermen – Politically Correct

Original 1985 K Disc Mastering EQ Copy – ¼” Reel-to-Reel Studio Tape

A rare original professional studio/mastering tape for Jane Bond & The Undercovermen – Politically Correct, prepared at K Disc Mastering, Hollywood, California, and dated June 19, 1985.

This is an original period EQ Copy supplied in its K Disc mastering box with the original typed mastering sheet.

The documentation identifies:

Artist: Jane Bond & The Undercovermen

Client: Ear Movie Records

Producer: Ethan James

Engineer: Ethan James

Mastering Engineer: John Golden

Studio: K Disc Mastering, 6550 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California

Date: June 19, 1985

Tape: EQ Copy

Format: ¼-inch professional tape

Speed: 15 IPS

Tracks: 2-track

Standard: NAB

Noise Reduction: Dolby A

The tape itself is an Agfa-Gevaert PEM 469 professional recording tape on a metal reel and retains its original Dolby A sticker and handwritten “2” reel identification.

SIDE B TRACK LISTING

1. Politically Correct – 4:02

2. Modern World – 4:16

3. We The Unwilling – 6:21

4. Radio Moscow – 5:47

Total time: 20:42

Of particular interest, this four-track Side B configuration, including “We The Unwilling,” corresponds with the track configuration of the UK Dreamworld release of Politically Correct (Big Dream 001), released in 1986.

The tape predates that release, being dated June 19, 1985.

This is therefore an unusual surviving piece of the album’s professional mastering/production history, with original K Disc documentation and a mastering credit to John Golden.

IMPORTANT: The tape has not been played or tested by me. It is therefore being sold as an archival/collectible studio tape and playback condition is unknown. I cannot guarantee the recorded contents beyond the information stated on the original K Disc documentation.

I am not claiming this is the original master recording or the actual cutting master used to manufacture the commercial LP. The original K Disc paperwork specifically identifies it as an “EQ Copy.”

The reel, tape box, labels and paperwork show age-related wear consistent with being approximately 40 years old. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

Everything has been left as found. No attempt has been made to clean, restore, splice or play the tape.

An unusual opportunity for collectors of Jane Bond & The Undercovermen, 1980s New Wave, independent music, vintage studio recordings, K Disc mastering memorabilia and analogue recording history.
