JB Lenoir, whose distinct guitar playing and sense of blues phrasing and vocalizing (an acquired taste, I admit) earned him acolytes and much praise - but only after his passed away - was, in fact, an obscure, wandering bluesman for much of his lifetime, at least until he was rediscovered by the first wave of ‘British Invasion’ bands around 1964/65. Unfortunately, his newly-found fame did not last very long: only about two years, until he died in a car crash in 1967. JBL was probably the very first recording artist whose work was censored by the political factors (in his case on DIRECT orders from Eisenhower’s White House!!!; Apparently, the powers that be did not like JB Lenoir’s 1951 "Eisenhower Blues" all that much). This album - sadly, the only one his own label granted him, and only after he died - compiles most of his classic early fifties blues recording in their GORGEOUS, undoctored, straight mono form, just as da blooz is meant to be played. The cover notes boldly proclaim that there will be more JB Lenoir issues in the coming days, but - regrettably - none had ever materialized. JB Lenoir - to my best knowledge - remains unavailable in any decent Compact Disc format, and certainly unavailable on CHESS/MCA compact disc reissues. This may be your only chance to grab this legendary bluesman’s only album

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The album comes with its original insert

(d)          Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 3:1.

(e)           True stereo copies of this album do not exist

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some ring wear.; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 5 (front side) and 4 (back side)

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-        Cover has a slight warp along the opening side; this has absolutely no effect on the record.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine and the top seam

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine and the bottom seam (nothing significant)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the top seam (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.(nothing significant)

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the back side   (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams (yet -- but both spine and the bottom seam are close!)

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
