I will never compromise on quality, safe packaging – I NEVER use mailing envelopes that offer virtually no protection at all, and records WILL arrive damaged in them at some time as most record buyers will already know. Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. Label/Format: CBS with a custom overprint of the title, these have matt smooth surfaces.

Label Conditions: All four immaculate – very clean, fresh and attractive with barely a spindle trace to be seen. Another purchased new by one owner who put his records direct to tape. Cover-protected the sleeve and stored away, these records appear barely even played and offer little short of pristine sound. This simply blew me away and is still one of the greatest albums of the 1970s (along with Dark Side of the Moon, also on offer) as a test for hi-fi equipment.

Warps: Few vintage records are ever perfectly ‘flat’, so some slight or very gentle arm movement is normal. These records are not dead flat and have a little gentle up and down movement. This is gentle and light and causes no issues in tracking or sound whatsoever, no turntable worthy of a name will any problem with these at all, of that I am certain.

Brief Info: Few will not know about this progressive rock concept album based on the H. G. Wells sci-fi novel War of the Worlds. This double set featuring a host of top-quality vocalists and musicians and one of the greatest ever rock recordings put to record. The engineering and production is simply sublime and if any system fails to impress playing this album, well it probably never will. Making full use of stereophonic sound, the effects of the Martians and their heat ray is off-the-scale impressive, and to date, I have seldom heard better sound than an ultra clean, barely played vinyl original. Beautifully packaged as well with a spectacular graphic gatefold cover and 16-page lyric/graphic book – it’s no real wonder why the vinyl format is still the choice of the connoisseur. This superbly pressed and it sounds amazing with nothing unwanted. The story is narrated by the legendary film actor Richard Burton – his voice one of the strongest and recognisable within its field – and what a brilliant performance he gives on this set. Along with Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’, there are few ways better of testing the capabilities of a high-end stereo system and this copy more than up to the task. What a brilliant album this is, and unreservedly recommended.

Cover Grade, Format, Overall Condition: VERY CLOSE TO MINT: an unlaminated gatefold format with shiny coated smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Shorewood, includes the colour graphic/lyric book and the two white inner sleeves. This has a real de-luxe look and feel, most are matt. The coating, which is virtually unblemished gives a brighter and vibrant effect to the artwork, and just about ever area, inside and out, plus the edges are all as-made. Don’t think I have ever seen a better one, cover-protection from new has ensured this has not aged whatsoever.

The Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT(+): two basic white unlined inners have only light corner crinkle and the paper only gently darkened. All edges naturally intact. A matching pair with the ‘PATENT Nos. 1,125,555’ text.

The Book: MINT(–): with just a couple of faint small creases on the front. The 16 pages are held together by the two original staples which are solid, unloosened or tarnished. All pages are virtually as-issued. Superb artwork as seen in my pictures, this quite lavish insert will prove hard to find better.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++)/MINT(–): this is visually, as stated these are not perfectly flat, but any movement is gentle and light. Perfect and easy tracking is assured with fantastic sound as well. A lovely visual pair that are very clean with equally fine shine and fairly solidly pressed, also on ultra pure vinyl that has no mottle or dulling within the pressing whatsoever. A copy appearing hardly even played on all the evidence with any surface traces minuscule to none bar a fine surface mark that does nothing. Visually two fantastic records that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This magnificent concept classic plays up to, and even above it’s high visual grading with barely nothing to fault – the audio quality and production is magnificent. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Even today, still one of the most spectacular sounding album for effects and content. The use of channel separation and panning between the speakers is stunning. Just listen to the unscrewing of the hatch on the Martian spacecraft, this really does send a shiver down the spine as does Burton’s sublime narration. His voice perfectly suited to this eerie story, few, if indeed anyone could have done it better. Also stand-out vocal performances by The Moody Blues front man Justin Hayward, David Essex and Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott. Any surface sound – well what surface sound? – there is barely even a trace, and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has barely been played, if indeed at all prior to my awesome play-grade and has been very well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these wonderful records, so I put this to CD recorded analogue for my own future pleasure to play anywhere. These records will prove beyond difficult to find better and merit my highest recommendation. This is what owning a quality hi-fi system is all about.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. When larger boxes are used, the thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
