Description

 Jelly Roll Morton's very first record, "Muddy Water Blues", issued both on Paramount and Puritan in 1923. This Puritan pressing misspells his name as "Jelly Roll Marton". Recorded in Chicago in June of 1923, this record is of profound historical significance as the very first recording made by the amazing "inventor of jazz". It is rumored (indeed it is likely) that the almost equally legendary Freddie Keppard is the cornet player here. The B-side is "My Sweetie West Away" by Fletcher Henderson and his orchestra. A truly beautiful V++/E- copy, which I acquired some years ago from Nauck, who had it in the honored position on the cover of the catalog. A rare one indeed.
